Hot Melt Equipment Maintenance Suggestions

Below are some tips on how you can keep your ITW Dynatec products running at maximum efficiency for the life of the product.  Some simple preventative maintenance can go a long way when it comes to keeping your production lines running at optimum output.  Just click a category to the left to see some tips on how you can keep your hot melt equipment up and running longer.

Adhesive Supply Units

Monthly

  • Check output manifold filter, replace as required.
  • Check for leaks under baseplate from worn pump seal replace as required.

Quarterly

  • Check all hose fittings for tightness.
  • Check all fasteners for tightness.
  • Inspect primary hopper filter, clean or replace as required.

Bi-Annually

  • Flush system with Dynatec flushing fluid and replace output manifold and applicator filters.

Adhesive Feeders

Weekly

  • Check airline regulator filter for water/oil contamination, replace as required.
  • Check adhesive transducer venturi (adhesive pick-up) for contamination or adhesive clogging, clean as required.
  • Check hopper inlet vent filter for cantamination, clean or replace as required.
  • Check hopper adhesive level probe for adhesive build-up (sticking to probe), reduce air pressure to the transducer venture (may slow the rate of time to fill) or calibrate adhesive level to a lower level in the hopper.

Adhesive Hoses

Monthly

  • Check electrical cabling for damage or wear, worn cabling poses a safety concern and the hose needs to be replaced.
  • Check entire length for pinching or binding of the hose, correct or replace as required.

Quarterly

  • Check fittings for leaks, tighten fittings as required.

Auto Adhesive Applicators

Weekly

  • Open purge drain valve to flush filter cavity, replace filter if excessive debris is discharged.

Monthly

  • Check airlines for leaks, tighten or replace as required.
  • Check hose fittings, tighten as required.

Quarterly

  • Check filter for contamination, replace filter as required.
  • Check nozzles for tightness and wear, clean or replace as required.
  • Check module weep-hole for seepage, replace module as required.
  • Check modules for tightness, tighten as required.

Manual Adhesive Applicators

Weekly

  • Check nozzle performance and wear, clean or replace as required.
  • Check applicator handle for cracks or leaks, repair or replace as required.
  • Check trigger lock mechanism for full locking capability, adjust as required.
  • Check electrical cable from hose for damage or wear, worn cabling poses a safety concern and the hose needs to be replaced.

Bulk Adhesive Melters

Ongoing

  • Check platen seal wear at each drum change for wear, replace as required.
  • Piston pump oil lubrication cup to be half full at all times, add lubricant as required.

Monthly

  • Check pump mounting bolt tightness, tighten as required (50 foot pounds).
  • Check air supply lines for leaks, tighten or replace as required.

Quarterly

  • Check platen cover bolts for tightness, tighten as required (25 foot pounds).
  • Check air injection check valve for plugging, clean as required.
  • After first 10 hours of operation check all set screws, cap screws, and bolts for tightness, then every quarter thereafter.

Cold Glue Systems

As Necessary

  • Clean any build-up from nozzle tips, product guides, and associated areas of the machine.
  • Purge applicators prior to machine start-up.
  • Apply grease or other means of preventing glue from drying in nozzles when machine is down for longer than 5 minutes.

Weekly

  • Check nozzles for wear or damage, replace as required.
  • Check all electrical and fluid lines for damage or wear, replace as required.
  • Clean or replace all fluid filter elements.

Monthly

  • Thoroughly flush the fluid delivery system and applicators with warm water.

Quarterly (or as experience dictates)

  • Perform the monthly flush.
  • Thoroughly flush with a 10% vinegar (acidic adhesives) or 10% ammonia (alkaline adhesives) solution.
  • Again, perform the monthly flush with water.
