Lost but Never Forgotten
ITW Dynatec
Sept. 11, 2008

ITW Dynatec is proud to be a part of the newly dedicated steel-bench Pentagon Memorial in northern Virginia at the crash site of American Airlines Flight 77.  Each bench is dedicated by name to one of the lives lost when a hijacked commercial airliner crashed into the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.  The 184 steel benches were manufactured by MetalTek International and are rustproof, cantilevered arcs of stainless steel measuring 14 feet long, each weighing 1,100 pounds and secured to the ground at one end. Each is engraved with a victim's name and sits above a small reflecting pool.  The benches are arranged as a timeline in regards to the victims ages:  3 to 71.

ITW Dynatec hot melt systems - supplied by Packaging Plus in Fenton, MO - were used to construct the molds into which the molten metal was then poured.

In regards to the new monument, ITW Dynatec General Manager Jud Broome stated, "Here at ITW Dynatec, we are proud to have been a part of this piece of history.  Many lives were lost on September 11, but none will ever be forgotten."

ITW Dynatec Excellence - VPP Star - Tuesday, August 26, 2008
On August 14th, 2008, ITW Dynatec was re-certified for VPP STAR status. Since 2006, Dynatec has been in an elite group of 27 companies in the state of Tennessee receiving this honor. Only 2,000 companies in the U.S. are certified, which puts Dynatec in the top .01% nationally. Only 4 ITW business units have achieved this level of excellence.

VPP stands for Voluntary Protection Program. Since its inception in 1982, VPP STAR has been a nationwide initiative and a cooperative relationship between the Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) and companies who have made outstanding efforts to achieve an exemplary Safety and Health Program.

VPP STAR sets performance-based criteria for a Safety and Health Program, invites companies to apply and then assesses the companies against those criteria.

At Dynatec, we have a record number of days without a recordable accident. We are 74% better than other companies in our industry in Total Case Incident Rates (TCIR) and 52% better than other companies in Days Away or Restricted Work / Transfer (DART).

We have achieved the VPP STAR certification because management made a choice and a commitment to SAFETY. All ITW Dynatec employees are involved in STAR. STAR has become part of our culture of excellence for both product and employee safety.
